i saw a comment thread on the r/italodisco subreddit that said 'why hasn't the internet solved this already?'... i thought 'i have, i am the internet!' and transcribed it in around an hour-ish.

not much was known to me (or anyone else in general) about giusy dej until recently, when an article on her by record turnover popped up with pictures of her. i had first heard her in the yung lean boiler room set and then i was obsessed from there. here is what i know about her. giuseppina de iacovo, going under the name of giusy dej released walking in the night (A side) and follow me (B side) in 1984. the track was her only release and written by 'clizio' (giuseppe aleo), 'gibis' (luigi mosello), and orlandi (giulio orlandi), then published by disco film / edizioni musicali ivdeoradio, then distributed as a 7" 45rpm by durium under the label 'disco in'. later in 2015, aussie company 'mothball records' repressed it. even later on, there were new extended mixes of both songs released as 12" 33 1/2rpm records (i think). no copy of this delightful record has been sold on discogs as of writing, but there are rumors of its last sale being a private ordeal for 1400 euros... although mysterious in nature, guiseppina is still alive and well (i hope) and is active online but i will not disclose any information because of privacy reasons. we must let an icon rest.
furthermore, you might be here because of my r/italodisco post where i explain how i transcribed it. i state in the post i couldn't comment this in another thread (due to server error?) so i thought i'd make a post incase it was too long. i think i might have a lead on this lol, i listened through then used youtube's auto-generated transcript feature to fill in as many gaps as i could. some lines i'm unsure of so i've added what they could be. most of the time i have just put what sounds most accurate to the track or most likely given the context as i think its about memories of an unfaithful lover. as far as i'm aware there are no pictures of the paper record slip covers on the internet which may have had the lyrics on, just the cover of the record and the record itself. so this really is a rough transcription lol.' i hope the need for lyrics is quenched now for all out there, as i have tried my best to be the change i see in the world (a lyrics poster). anyway... here it is. (i feel like a translator for an ancient and magical text).

final thoughts... i, in the true nature of an ex-media studies / current english student, have torn myself to bits trying to analyse the meaning of this song in my head. given the nature of her accent coulouring the words and the fact that the writers, as many non-native english speakers do, may have just chosen words that sound cool (i would 100% do that too if i spoke another language aswell and i do that frequently in english anyway as a native speaker), my interpretation is loose and open in aims to be as lyrically unstrict as she was. my interpretaion is that she is singing about an unfaithful lover or someone who loves her in private then is emotionally distant after/ won't love her in public. she's trying to remind them that it doesn't have to be that way and to 'follow her' and remember the good times and take the chance to love, but then she doubts if she should make such a proposal. i like this, i like how vague yet direct the language can be, it feels driven by emotion and i would follow her. i love how her voice is almost a hoarse whisper, beckoning for the addressee to join her in this emotional journey. the background whispers i adore... if i die, bury me with this track on me please so that i am owner of a very rare vinyl that nobody else can have.
