cathedral light

by india southgate.

I wonder what you thought of,
When you lit those three candles?
There was one for you and one for me,
The other one was left a mystery.

I thought of many things,
And after many questions,
I thought I had the reason,
That the last one was for us.

So when I lit my tealight,
I lit it only for you,
And I stamped out the match halfway,
So that the smoke was left for me.

When we talked of a God you told me,
Whoever I believed in would hear me,
So I knelt down beside you,
And prayed to you in your name.
